The survey

The questionnaire on this website was first used in 2014, and is based on questions used by PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) taken in 2012 and TIMMS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) taken in 2011. Both of these questionnaires focussed on student attitudes in mathematics, allowing an insight into student results in the different areas of resilience as defined on this site.

I have taken a sample of questions from these surveys, and have combined them into different categories of mathematical resilience. A student answers these questions, and a score between 1 and 4 is obtained for the seven different areas of mathematical resilience.

Use the links below to view the original questions in the PISA or TIMMS questionnaires.

Rather than focussing on the traditional areas of number, algebra, data and shape, focus on an aspect of these seven areas of resilience when teaching and supporting certain students. The results so far have been useful, and is something that other mathematics teachers may find useful.
